Keeping Animals

How many animals can I have?

You do not need a permit if you do not exceed the maximum number of animals allowed in a residential area. You are not allowed to keep animals that are not listed.

Dogs 2
Domestic birds 50
Domestic rabbits 10
Ferrets 3
Guinea pigs 10
Peacocks 2
Pigeons 50
Poulty (no roosters) 10

Can I keep bees?

You can keep bees when you:

  • Register with Agriculture Victoria
  • Have the consent of your neighbours
  • A permit from Council is only required if you keep more than one (1) hive
  • Apply for a permit from Council. You need proof of registration with Agriculture Victoria
