The annual awards recognise individuals, young people, events and community groups who have excelled, risen above adversity and given back to their community over the past year.

Alpine Shire Mayor John Forsyth said the awards are a great way to recognise those people who make our communities great.

“I’m always amazed at the diversity of talent, determination and generosity of spirit that we see in the nominations for our Australia Day Community Awards,” he said.

“Whether they have overcome great odds, given their time and energy to help others, shown incredible leadership through adversity or are the backbone of their community, these awards are the way to celebrate the unsung heroes of our community.

“We encourage anyone who knows a member of our community who deserves to be celebrated to nominate them for an award today.”

Categories for the awards are:

  • Local Achiever of the Year
  • Local Young Achiever of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Community Organisation of the Year
