From time to time, road works, projects, and events require the partial or complete closure of roads within Alpine Shire.

Bright Make it Bake it Grow it Monthly Market

6am 1.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month

The Howitt Park Soundshell car park will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the monthly market.

Myrtleford Alpine Rally

7am - 5pm, 19th September 2026

Speed reductions will be in place at from the O’Donnell Avenue slip lane and Briggs Lane to Mcgeehans Track.

Alpine Cycling Club - Inverted Enduro

8am - 1.30pm, 20th September 2026

Speed reductions will be in place along Coronation Avenue to allow for the safe staging of the event.

Harrietville Half Marathon

6am - 1pm, Sunday 11th October 2026

The event is taking place on the Great Valley Trail and changed traffic conditions will be in place at the following intersections. 

  • Tawonga Gap Road & Great Valley Trail, Germantown
  • Old Harrietville Road & Great Valley Trail, Germantown
  • Websters Lane & Dibbin Lane, Freeburgh
  • Feathertop Track & Great Valley Trail, Harrietville

Please use caution and watch for runners.

Bright Twilight Tastings

2pm to approximately 10.30pm, Thursday 15th October

A road closure will be in place in Ireland St, Bright, between Cobden St/Railway Ave and Anderson St. 

There will be no vehicle access to the clocktower roundabout from Ireland St, Anderson St Burke St or Barnard/Camp Sts. Please seek alternate routes.

Access to Camp St via Barnard St will remain open.

Tour of Bright

The Tour of Bright cycling event will be held on roads throughout the Shire between Friday 4th and Sunday 6th December 2026.

Motorists are advised that there will be an increased number of cyclists using roads throughout the area. Delays are expected. Please drive safely.

FRIDAY 4th December 2026

Criterion

The following roads will be closed in Bright from 2pm to 10pm:

  • Ireland St between Railway Ave and Mafeking Sq (roundabout)
  • Ireland St between Camp St and Cobden
  • Anderson St between roundabout and Wood St
  • Wood St between Anderson St and Railway Ave
  • Railway Ave between Wood and Ireland Sts

No parking will be available in the listed streets from 1.30pm 

The V/Line bus stop in Anderson St will be temporarily relocated to Apex Park in Gavan St, opposite Woolworths

SATURDAY 5th December 2026

Stage 1 – Gaps Loop

The following roads will be closed from 9am to 1.30pm: 

  • Tawonga Gap between Kiewa Valley Hwy and Great Alpine Rd
  • Pioneer Park entry at Coronation Ave 

The following roads will experience increased cyclists:

  • Railways Ave, Bright 
  • Churchill Ave, Bright 
  • Great Alpine Rd in Bright between Churchill Ave and Tawonga Gap Rd

Stage 2 -Time Trials

The following roads in Harrietville will experience increased cyclists from 2pm to approx. 6.00pm: 

  • Great Alpine Rd between Old Harrietville Rd and Feathertop Tk

SUNDAY 6th December 2026

Stage 3 – Mount Buffalo

There will be a road race stage from Bright to Dingo Dell on Mount Buffalo.

The uphill lane road closures will be in place from 7.30am to approx. 1.00pm on Mount Buffalo Rd between Porepunkah and Dingo Dell.

We have a regular schedule of road and bridge management works to ensure the vital infrastructure in Alpine Shire is maintained, along with many major road and bridge projects.
