From time to time, road works, projects, and events require the partial or complete closure of roads within the Alpine Shire.
Current and upcoming road closures and changes
Old Railway Bridge over Ovens River between Bright and Porepunkah
9am – 3pm from Monday, 13 October 2025 to Friday, 17 October 2025.
The old railway bridge over the Ovens River – the one along the Rail Trail between Bright and Porepunkah – is due for essential maintenance works. This means that the Rail Trail between Bright and Porepunkah will be closed at the bridge.
If you have school-aged children who ride along the bridge to and from school, they'll still have access before and after school hours.
There will be signs placed at the Bright Rotunda and along the Back Porepunkah Road to alert Rail Trail users during the week.
We thank you for your patience as our teams carry out these essential maintenance works.
Bright Make it Bake it Grow it Monthly Market
6am – 1.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month
The Howitt Park Soundshell car park will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the monthly market.
Bright Twilight Tastings
3pm - 9pm Thursday 16th October
The following roads in Bright will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the event:
- Ireland Street
- Anderson at Wood Street
- Burke Street (local traffic only)
Barnard and Camp Street will remain open.
Anderson Street Bright bus stop will be relocated to Apex Park Bright from 2pm to 9pm on Thursday 16 October.
Myrtleford Show
9am - 9pm Saturday 25th October
- Please proceed to the main entry gate for all vehicle parking.
- Conifer Street will be open to local traffic only. No parking along this street.
Bright Rotary Spring Market (Melb Cup)
7.00am to 4.00pm Monday 3 November 2025
- Both the Soundshell and Riverdeck car parks in Howitt Park will be closed
- Howitt Lane closed between Great Alpine Rd and Howitt Park
- Riverside Ave open to local traffic only
Bright Rod Run
7.00am Thursday 6 November to 7.00am Monday 10 November 2025
Barriers will be installed in the following locations to manage traffic flow:
· Barnard Street at Camp Street intersection
· Wood Street at Anderson Street intersection
· Burke Street at Ireland Street roundabout (clocktower)
· Gavan Street roundabout
· No right turn from Gavan Street at Barnard Street intersection
· No right turn from Gavan Street at Anderson Street intersection
· No right turn from Gavan Street at Star Road intersection
· No right turn from Gavan Street to Wills Street Intersection
· Anderson Street
· Ireland Street
· Railway Avenue
· Cobden Street
Access to the CBD is as follows:
· Vehicles may turn left into Anderson Street from Gavan Street roundabout and continue through to Ireland Street only before exiting left into Cobden Street
· Vehicles may turn left into Ireland Street roundabout from Railway Ave and continue through to Anderson Street only before exiting left into Gavan Street at the roundabout.
· Vehicles may turn left into Barnard Street and left into Camp Street
· No right turns or u-turns are permitted in the CBD, barriers will be in place to control the flow of traffic.
· Times Parking. No parking on median strips.
CBD roads will be closed for the following times as advised by police:
9.00 pm Friday 8 November to 7.00am Saturday 9 November
9.00pm Saturday 9 November to 7.00am Sunday 10 November
The V/Line bus stop in Anderson Street will be located on Gavan Street opposite Woolworths for the duration of the event.
Changed Traffic Conditions for Pioneer Park Precinct / Coronation Avenue
Sunday 10 November 2025 from 6.00am TO 2.00pm
Barriers will be installed in the following locations:
· Cobden Street at Pioneer Lane intersection
· Hawthorn Lane at Coronation Avenue intersection
· Pioneer Lane at Coronation Avenue intersection
NO ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION IN BRIGHT CBD. THIS IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT

Residents and visitors are reminded that NO VEHICLES can be moved during the locations above after the stated road closure times, as this will prevent the event from commencing.

Remembrance Day - Bright
6.00am to 12.30pm Tuesday 11 November 2025
The following closures will be in place to allow the safe staging of Remembrance Day in Mafeking Square, Bright:
- Anderson St closed at Wood St
- Burke St closed at the Mafeking Sq roundabout
- Ireland St closed between Mafeking Sq roundabout and Cobden St/Railway Ave roundabout (both directions)
- No access to Mafeking Sq roundabout from Barnard St
The V/Line bus stop in Anderson Street will be located on Gavan Street opposite Woolworths for the duration of the event.
2025 Tour of Bright
Friday 5th December and Sunday 7th December 2024
Motorists are advised that there will be an increased number of cyclists using roads throughout the area. Delays are expected. Please drive safely.
3pm to 8pm, Friday 5th December 2025
The following roads will be closed in Bright:
- Ireland St between Railway Ave and Mafeking Sq
- Andersen St between roundabout and Wood St
- Wood St between Anderson and Railway Ave
- Railway Ave between Wood and Ireland St
No parking will be available in the listed streets from 2pm. Detour Wills Street.
9:30am to 1.30pm, Saturday 6th December 2025
Stage 1 – Gaps Loop
The following roads will be closed from :
- Tawonga Gap between Kiewa Valley Hwy and Great Alpine Rd
- Bourke Street entry at Cobden Street
The following roads will experience increased cyclists:
- Railways Ave, Bright
- Churchill Ave, Bright
- Great Alpine Rd in Bright between Churchill Ave and Tawonga Gap Rd

Stage 2 -Time Trials
The following roads in Buckland Valley will experience increased cyclists from
- Buckland River Rd
- Eggleston Rd
- Harris Ln
- Goldie Spur Trk
8.30am to 12.00pm, Sunday 7th December 2025
Stage 3 – Mount Buffalo
There will be a road race stage from Bright to Dingo Dell on Mount Buffalo.
The uphill lane road closures will be in place from 8.30am to approx. 12.00pm on Mount Buffalo Rd between Porepunkah and Dingo Dell.
Bright Rotary Twilight Market
1.00pm to 9.00pm Thursday 1 January 2026

The Dargo High Plains Road is now closed and will reopen in Spring 2025.
