From time to time, road works, projects, and events require the partial or complete closure of roads within the Alpine Shire.
Current and upcoming road closures and changes
Great Victorian Bike Ride
The Great Vic Bike Ride will visit Myrtleford on Sunday, 24 November before departing on Monday, 25 November 2024. Around 2000 cyclists will stay overnight at the Myrtleford Recreation Reserve.
There will be no road closures in place, however motorists are advised that there will be an increased number of cyclists on the roads during this time.
Delays are expected. Please drive safely.
SUNDAY, 24 November 2024
Cyclists travel from Yackandandah to Myrtleford via Myrtleford-Yackandandah Rd
Expected arrival at the Myrtleford Recreation Reserve from 12 noon
MONDAY, 25 November 2024
Cyclists travel from Myrtleford to Wangaratta via Prince St and Great Alpine Rd
Expected exit time from Myrtleford Recreation Reserve between 6.30am and 8.30am
Tour of Bright 2024
The Tour of Bright cycling event will be held on roads throughout the Shire between Friday, 29 November and Sunday, December 2024.
Motorists are advised that there will be an increased number of cyclists using roads throughout the area. Delays are expected. Please drive safely.
FRIDAY, 29 November 2024
The following roads will be closed in Bright from 5pm to 8pm:
- Ireland St between Railway Ave and Mafeking Sq
- Andersen St between roundabout and Wood St
- Wood St between Anderson and Railway Ave
- Railway Ave between Wood and Ireland St
No parking will be available in the listed streets from 3pm
SATURDAY, 30 November 2024
Stage 1 – Gaps Loop
The following roads will be closed from 9am to 1.30pm:
- Tawonga Gap between Kiewa Valley Hwy and Great Alpine Rd
- Pioneer Park entry at Coronation Ave
The following roads will experience increased cyclists:
- Coronation Ave, Bright
- Churchill Ave, Bright
- Great Alpine Rd in Bright between Churchill Ave and Tawonga Gap Rd
Stage 2 -Time Trials
The following roads in Buckland Valley will experience increased cyclists from 2pm to approx. 6.00pm:
- Buckland River Rd
- Eggleston Rd
- Harris Ln
- Goldie Spur Tk
SUNDAY, 1 DECEMBER 2024
Stage 3 – Mount Buffalo
There will be a road race stage from Bright to Dingo Dell on Mount Buffalo.
The uphill lane road closures will be in place from 7.30am to 10.30am on Mount Buffalo Rd between Porepunkah and Dingo Dell.
Bright Christmas Market
Friday 6th December, 12pm - 10pm
Burke Street carpark will be closed from 12pm to 10pm to allow for the safe staging of the event.
Bright Make it Bake it Grow it Monthly Market
6am – 1.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month.
The Howitt Park Soundshell car park will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the monthly market.
Bright Rotary Twilight Market
11am - 9.30pm, Thursday 2nd January
Howitt Lane, Soundshell carpark and Howitt Park car park (behind Bright Brewery) will be closed to traffic to allow for the safe staging of the event.
Riverside Avenue will remain accessible for local traffic only (accessible via Star Road only).
Dargo High Plains Road
The Dargo High Plains Road has now reopened for the summer season and will remain open until May/June 2025, weather depending.
