Planned roadworks in Porepunkah and Bright
Road improvement works will be carried out at various times and locations across Porepunkah and Bright between October 2025 and March 2026.
What to expect
The works will include:
- Road stabilisation and patching
- Resealing
- Road upgrades
- Asphalting
While exact dates may vary due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to avoid peak traffic periods, including major events such as the Bright Rod Run and the Christmas holidays.
Notifications
Affected residents, business owners, and holiday accommodation providers will be notified closer to the commencement of works via:
- Direct letters
- Social media updates
- Local newspaper notices

Bright Make it Bake it Grow it Monthly Market
6am – 1.30pm Saturday 21 March 2026
The following changes to traffic conditions in and around Howitt Park will be in place to ensure the safe staging of the Make It Bake It Grow It Markets in Bright:
- Soundshell and Riverdeck/Brewery car parks closed
- No vehicle entry into Howitt Ln from Great Alpine Road
- Local traffic only into Riverside Ave from Star Rd, exit via Howitt Ln
6am – 1.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month
The Howitt Park Soundshell car park will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the monthly market.
Alpine Junior MTB Series - Bright
6.30am – 1.30pm Saturday 21 March 2026
Speed restrictions will be in place on Coronation Ave between Pioneer Ln and Churchill Ave to ensure the safe staging of the Alpine Junior Mountain Bike Series round at Mystic Bike Park in Bright.
Please drive with caution in this area.
Buffalo Stampede
4pm, Friday 27th March - Sunday 29th March
Participants will be using various roads between Bright and Mount Buffalo, incorporating the local trail network/bushland during the event.
The following roads will have changed traffic conditions and road closures. Traffic marshals will be in place:
- Cobden Street between Pioneer Park and Hawthorn lane will be closed to non-residents.
- Pioneer Lane between Coronation Ave and Cobden Lane will be closed to non-residents.
- White Star Road, between Robinson Road & Morses Creek road will be closed. Detours in place.
All other roads along the course will remain open, however speed reductions, road crossings and traffic marshals will be in place. Please drive carefully.
Great Alpine Tarmac Rally
The inaugural Great Alpine Tarmac Rally is coming to Falls Creek from Saturday, 28 to Sunday, 29 March 2026.
To ensure the safe staging of this event, there will be two significant road closures across the weekend.
- Saturday, 28 March from 7am - 5.30pm | Bogong High Plains Rd will be closed from the Tawonga Crescent/Bogong Ave/Bogong High Plains Rd intersection to the Falls Creek Summit/Gully Carpark
- Sunday, 29 March from 7am-5.30pm | Bogong High Plains Rd from Healthy Spur Carpark to the Omeo Highway
If access to the road is needed, people can call Australian Tarmac Rally's (ATR) Customer Relations Officer on 0484 653 215. Please note, they do not tolerate any form of abuse or inappropriate behaviour over the phone. ATR's Customer Relations Officer is available to assist with course access during the event and expect all callers to communicate respectfully. Abusive language or behaviour will not be accepted and may result in the call being terminated.
Whilst this event is not taking part on any Council managed roads, we're sharing the following information to help keep the community and visitors informed and be able to plan their weekend accordingly.

Bright Rotary Easter Market
7am – 4pm, Saturday 4th April
- Both the Soundshell and Riverdeck car parks in Howitt Park will be closed
- Howitt Lane closed between Great Alpine Rd and Howitt Park
- Riverside Ave open to local traffic only
La Fiera
Saturday 16th May 2026 from 6am to approximately 8pm
- Great Alpine Road (Myrtle Street) closed between Standish and Clyde st intersections
- Clyde st closed between Standish and Queen st intersections (single lane only)
Please follow detours and allow for delays
- Please note a temporary V/line bus stop will be located at the corner of Albert and Elgin streets during this closure

Sunday 17th May 2026 from 6am to approximately 3.30pm
Clyde st closed between Standish and Queen st intersections (single lane only)
