From time to time, road works, projects, and events require the partial or complete closure of roads within Alpine Shire.

Planned roadworks in Porepunkah and Bright
Road improvement works will be carried out at various times and locations across Porepunkah and Bright between October 2025 and March 2026.
What to expect
The works will include:
- Road stabilisation and patching
- Resealing
- Road upgrades
- Asphalting
While exact dates may vary due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to avoid peak traffic periods, including major events such as the Bright Rod Run and the Christmas holidays.
Notifications
Affected residents, business owners, and holiday accommodation providers will be notified closer to the commencement of works via:
- Direct letters
- Social media updates
- Local newspaper notices

Bright Make it Bake it Grow it Monthly Market
6am – 1.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month
The Howitt Park Soundshell car park will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the monthly market.
Dederang Picnic Races
Saturday 21 February 2026 9.00am to approximately 6.00pm
A speed reduction will be in place on Kiewa Valley Highway at the Dederang Recreation Reserve.
Expect delays.
Peaks Challenge Falls Creek 2026
Sunday 8th March 2026 Falls Creek, Mount Beauty, Harrietville, Dinner Plain, Omeo and Anglers Rest
The following areas roads will have a Full Road Closure in place:
Bogong High Plains Road - Falls Creek to Mount Beauty 5:30am - 9:00am
Tawonga Gap Road - Tawonga to Germantown 6:30am - 10:30am
Great Alpine Road - Harrietville to Hotham Heights 8:00am - 1:30pm
Bogong High Plains Road - Bogong High Plains Road turnoff to Falls Creek 12:00pm - 8:30pm
[Closed to all vehicles, except Emergency Services and official event vehicles]
In addition to the above road closures, there will also be changed traffic conditions in the area which may include speed reductions and the presence of traffic controllers.
Brighter Days Festival
Friday 6th March: 3pm - 11pm
Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th March: 8am - 10pm.
Minor traffic changes and reduced speed zones will be in place from Friday 6th March through to Sunday 8th March.
Coronation Avenue (Mystic Lane to Hawthorn Lane) - reduced speeds, detour via Churchill Ave
Cobden Street (at Hawthorne Lane): road closure with traffic marshal
Pioneer Lane (Hawthorne Lane to Coronation Ave): closed, local access only via Cobden Street. (Local traffic and authorised vehicles only)
Buffalo Stampede
4pm, Friday 27th March - Sunday 29th March
Participants will be using various roads between Bright and Mount Buffalo, incorporating the local trail network/bushland during the event.
The following roads will have changed traffic conditions and road closures. Traffic marshals will be in place:
- Cobden Street between Pioneer Park and Hawthorn lane will be closed to non-residents.
- Pioneer Lane between Coronation Ave and Cobden Lane will be closed to non-residents.
- White Star Road, between Robinson Road & Morses Creek road will be closed. Detours in place.
All other roads along the course will remain open, however speed reductions, road crossings and traffic marshals will be in place. Please drive carefully.
Bright Rotary Easter Market
7am – 4pm, Saturday 4th April
- Both the Soundshell and Riverdeck car parks in Howitt Park will be closed
- Howitt Lane closed between Great Alpine Rd and Howitt Park
- Riverside Ave open to local traffic only
