Planned roadworks in Porepunkah and Bright
Road improvement works will be carried out at various times and locations across Porepunkah and Bright between October 2025 and March 2026.
What to expect
The works will include:
- Road stabilisation and patching
- Resealing
- Road upgrades
- Asphalting
While exact dates may vary due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to avoid peak traffic periods, including major events such as the Bright Rod Run and the Christmas holidays.
Notifications
Affected residents, business owners, and holiday accommodation providers will be notified closer to the commencement of works via:
- Direct letters
- Social media updates
- Local newspaper notices

Bridge maintenance along Rail Trail
We're conducting routine maintenance on the old railway bridges across Alpine Shire. Please see the list below for details:
- Happy Valley 2 Bridge | Closed on Monday, 10 November 2025 through to Tuesday, 18 November 2025.
- Old Railway Bridge over Ovens River | Closed on Wednesday, 19 November 2025 and Thursday, 20 November 2025.
- Snowy Creek Bridge | Short delays on Thursday, 20 November 2025 with full closures on Thursday, 11 December 2025 and Friday, 12 December 2025.
Bridges will be closed between 9am – 3pm during works, meaning that users can still have access before and after school hours.
Temporary signage will be in place before and after the works to notify any users of the Rail Trail.

Riverside carpark in Porepunkah
Our team will be working on Riverside carpark in Porepunkah next week to improve access before the summer kicks off!
The carpark will be closed from Monday, 24 November 2025 through to Friday, 12 December 2025, with potential for delays in completion due to weather.
Works will include road reconstruction and sealing, defined parking, improved Rail Trail links, and footpath work.
Pedestrian access will remain available to the park, river, and public toilet.

Bright Make it Bake it Grow it Monthly Market
6am – 1.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month
The Howitt Park Soundshell car park will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the monthly market.
Dargo High Plains Road
Following the completion of annual grading works, the Dargo High Plains Road is now open.
Please drive to conditions and stay alert – safety first for everyone on the road.

Tawonga | Driveway and parking area behind old Scout Hall
The driveway and parking area behind the old Tawonga Scout Hall are getting an upgrade.
Access to the driveway and parking area will be closed to the public from Monday, 24 November through to Friday, 28 November. All facilities will still be usable and accessible from the Kiewa Valley Highway.
The outcome of these works will be an improved parking facility for users of Pioneer Park.
