When do I pay rates?
Annual valuation and rate notices are posted in August and reminder notices are issued prior to each instalment date.
Instalments are due on these dates:
- 30 September
- 30 November
- 28 February
- 31 May
Late or overdue payments will attract interest charges in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989. For more details, please refer to the reverse side of your rate notice.

FlexiPay
A Flexible Way to Pay by Direct Debit and Manage Your Rates
What is FlexiPay?
FlexiPay is a payment option provided by Council that allows you to spread the cost of your rates over smaller, regular amounts through direct debit. This can help make your rate payments more manageable.
Payment Options
FlexiPay offers a range of payment schedules to suit your needs:
- Weekly: Payments are made every week.
- Fortnightly: Payments occur every two weeks.
- Monthly: Payments are made once a month.
- Quarterly: Payments are spread out over four instalments each year.
Please note, since rates must be paid in full by May 2025, your regular installments will be based on the time between setting up FlexiPay and May next year.
How to Register
To sign up for FlexiPay, simply visit FlexiPay Registration and complete the registration process. There are no additional costs for using this service.

Financial Hardship
If you are having or are going to have trouble paying your rates please contact Council to discuss the options that are available to you. Our staff can help you to work out the best payment plan and will provide confidential advice.
Council has a Financial Hardship Policy that explains what assistance is available to pensioners and ratepayers experiencing financial hardship and how applications are assessed. Copies of the policy are available here or in hard copy at our Bright office or any of the our Library branch offices located in Bright, Myrtleford and Mount Beauty.
