The policy relates to the distribution of funding for maintenance of sporting reserves across Alpine Shire and applies to committees of management appointed by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) or community asset committees appointed by Council.

The aim of the policy is to enable relevant committees of management and community asset committees to continue maintaining high quality facilities for the benefit of sports in Alpine Shire.

The draft policy was developed over a six-month period together with the committees affected by the changes and exhibited for public comment for a four-week period from Wednesday, 27 May 2026 to Wednesday, 24 June 2026.

Alpine Shire Council Deputy Mayor, Cr Gareth Graham, said that the adoption of the policy is integral to ensuring that Council's provision of funding and other material support is equitable for all relevant committees.

"The development of the Sporting Reserves Maintenance Support Policy 2026 reflects the significant changes in sporting facilities over the past twenty years, including increased frequency of use across most of our reserves," he said.

"The policy will introduce improved financial accountability for both Council and the committees to ensure sustainable maintenance of sporting reserves now and into the future."

Committees of management and community asset committees will be able to apply for support via a form available on Council's website or via a paper form, which can be completed and delivered to the Customer Service Centre in Bright.

Individual sporting clubs are ineligible to apply for funding through the Sporting Reserves Maintenance Support Policy.
