Maternal and Child Health

Council supports families with young children with its Maternal and Child Health Service.

You will be visited by a nurse at home after the birth of your baby, and will then attend appointments at your local MCH centre.

The Centre looks regularly at your child’s development, and you can ask any question on health, development and care.

Please call 0417 147 120 for an appointment and to ask questions about your child’s health and development.

The service aims to promote the health, development and wellbeing of children by offering families information, advice and support, with an emphasis on parenting, health promotion and education, illness and disease prevention, early detection and referral to early intervention for improved outcomes.

The MCH service provides advice and assistance with

  • Breastfeeding
  • Child’s health and development
  • Maternal health and wellbeing, including adjustment to parenthood and postnatal depression
  • Parent/child relationships
  • Family planning
  • Nutrition
  • Immunisation
  • Parenting and social support, including first time parents' groups
