Homeowners in Alpine Shire with a swimming pool, spa, or hot tub located on their property are reminded that they must register them with Alpine Shire Council and renew their Form 23 Certificate of Barrier Compliance every four years.
Certificates are required for all pools, spas, and hot tubs to ensure that the barriers are safe and comply with the relevant requirements of the Victorian Building Act 1993.
Suitable safety barriers must surround every pool, spa, and hot tub capable of holding more than 300mm of water, including those that are permanent, in-ground, above-ground, relocatable, and inflatable.
Small relocatable pools that do not consist of multiple components and do not require any assembly, such as small inflatable pools that do not hold more than 300mm of water, would not normally require a compliant barrier.
All homeowners with a pool, spa, or hot tub on their property must:
- Register their pool, spa, or hot tub with Council through Greenlight: https://alpine.greenlightopm.com/building
- Engage Council or a registered swimming pool inspector, building inspector, or building surveyor to inspect the barrier and issue a Form 23 Certificate of Barrier Compliance.
- Submit the certificate issued by the inspector to Council within 30 days of receipt.
- Obtain a certificate every four years.
Alpine Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Mr Will Jeremy, said that these measures are in place to help protect the safety of any person, especially young children, living in or visiting a home in Alpine Shire.
"Those of us who have ever chased down a toddler know how fast those little legs can run and how quickly they learn to climb, which becomes a safety hazard around pools and spas," he said.
"This is why our team works with homeowners who have a pool, spa, or hot tub on their property to ensure that they are registered and have compliant barriers - to minimise the risk and potentially save lives."
