The Mission Australia Youth Survey is once again open for people aged 14-19 years to provide valuable insights into their personal experiences as young people living in Alpine Shire.
The survey is the largest annual survey of young people living in Australia, with a total of 17,155 people aged 14-19 taking part in 2025. Of those, 4,448 were living Victoria and 119 were living in Alpine Shire.
Over the past two years, Alpine Shire Council has seen over 100 young people fill out the survey, meaning that Council has been eligible to receive data specific to young people living in the region.
Local government areas must have over 100 survey participants to receive data specific to their area.
Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said that this data is invaluable for every organisation that engages with young people, including schools, sporting clubs, and community groups.
"Every parent, teacher, coach, employer, and leader of a young person aged 14-19 can learn from the results of this survey, which is why it's important to encourage young people to fill it out," she said.
"The results of the 2025 Mission Australia Youth Surveys told us that a majority of respondents work part-time and over half are involved in team sport.
"This shows us that our young people are highly engaged with a number of different people across our communities, from their families and friends, to team mates and work colleagues.
"However, the results also tell us that 46% of young people in Alpine Shire are experiencing moderate to high psychological distress, with different contributing factors, which is vital information for anyone who engages with young people.
"With the information gathered, organisations and groups across our shire can develop programs that meets the needs of young people, based on robust statistical evidence."

To ensure that the survey results are attributed to Alpine Shire, participants must enter the code 28012 when completing the survey.

The survey will close on Friday, 14 August 2026.
