Nestled in the heart of the Victorian Alps, Mount Beauty has long been a beloved destination for adventurers and nature lovers alike.

This award recognises the town’s exceptional tourism offering, community spirit, and the unforgettable experiences it provides to visitors year-round.

The winning submission was a collaborative effort led by Alpine Shire Council’s Tourism team, working closely with local businesses.

Together, they crafted a compelling itinerary showcasing the very best of the Upper Kiewa Valley - from alpine hiking and mountain biking to cosy accommodation, vibrant eateries, and locally crafted brews.

The public then had their say, voting for their favourite small tourism town.

The overwhelming support for Mount Beauty came from all corners - locals, visitors, and long-time lovers of the region - and was instrumental in securing the top honour.

Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said the entire community should be proud of the recognition as everyone contributes to make Mount Beauty and surrounds so wonderful.

“It's no secret to us that Mount Beauty is truly a special place for locals and visitors alike, and now the whole of Victoria knows it too!," she said.

"This award is a testament to the incredible people who make the Upper Kiewa Valley so special, from our hardworking tourism operators to the visitors who return year after year.

"Thank you to everyone who voted and helped showcase the magic of Mount Beauty to the rest of Victoria.”

With a population between 1,500 and 5,000, Mount Beauty stood out among strong contenders including Port Fairy (Silver), Portarlington (Bronze), and fellow finalists Camperdown, Heathcote, Paynesville, and Rutherglen.

Council extends its heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the submission and to everyone who cast a vote.

This win is a celebration of community, collaboration, and the natural beauty that makes Mount Beauty a true gem of regional Victoria.

Mount Beauty will now be in the running for Australia's Top Small Tourism Town Award at the national awards held in Canberra in September.
