Delivered by Nick McEwan-Hall, The Mental Health Coach, supported by Alpine Shire Council, these workshops are designed to equip residents with practical tools to recognise and respond to mental health challenges in everyday life.

Mental Health Essentials is a 3.5-hour online workshop introducing participants to the basics of mental health. To be held on Wednesday, 10 September 2025 from 2pm, this session is ideal for those wanting to build confidence in supporting others and understanding mental health in a simple, accessible way.

Mental Health First Aid, scheduled for Tuesday, 18 November at The Pavilion in Bright, offers a hybrid learning experience.

Participants will complete e-learning at home before attending a full-day in-person workshop. This nationally accredited course provides tangible skills to assist people experiencing mental health issues and is recognised across Australia and internationally.

Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said the workshops are offered to help strengthen community wellbeing following the October 2022 flood and landslip events but are relevant to recovery from other disasters, and life crises individuals and families might encounter.

“Mental health affects every one of us, and these workshops are a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, learn, and support one another,” she said.

"Whether you’re looking to build basic awareness or gain accredited mental health first aid skills, there’s something here for everyone.”

Both workshops are free and open to Alpine Shire residents aged 18 and over.

These sessions are funded by the State of Victoria through Emergency Recovery Victoria's Community Recovery Hubs grant program and the Australian Government in response to the October 2022 Flood and Landslip
