Cr Sarah Nicholas has been elected the Mayor of the Alpine Shire and Cr Peter Smith has been elected Deputy Mayor.
At the first Ordinary Council Meeting for the newly elected Council held on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, Councillors set the term for both positions for one year.
During the meeting, Cr Nicholas said that she's looking forward to being part of a productive, proactive, and constructive leadership team with both the Council and Executive.
"My last term as Mayor, I was really focussed on continued improvement in community engagement and strategic planning, and I think we're starting to hear that that's got some legs and is running," she said.
"What I'm hoping to do for this next year is help set the team up for the next four years to enable a really good working relationship with our community and therefore seek and find a strong community engaged with Council activities supported by smart economy, healthy environment, sustainability, and service excellence."
At the meeting, Council also:
- Received and recorded the Oaths or Affirmations of Office signed on 24 November 2024.
- Awarded Contract No. 2606801 to Rich River Asphalt for the lump sum price of $446,884 (GST exclusive).
- Delegated authority to the Chief Executive Officer to sign Contract No. 2606801 at an appropriate time.
- Appointed Councillors as Council's delegate on the following groups and committees: Municipal Association of Victoria, Hume Region Local Government Network, CEO Employment and Renumeration Committee, Rural Councils Victoria, Taungurung – Local Government Forum, Alpine Shire Council – Finance Committee, Alpine Shire Council – Audit and Risk Committee, Alpine Children's Services Inc., Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance, and Alpine Resilience Partnership.
- Entered into a one-year contract with GovSS Pty Ltd (trading as Government Shared Services) under Contract No. CT21070 for the provision of building surveyor support services for an estimated total contract value of $340,500 (GST exclusive).
- Delegated authority to the Chief Executive Officer to approve any contract variations for Contract No. CT21070 up to a cumulative value of $200,000 (GST exclusive).
- Delegated authority to the Chief Executive Officer to sign Contract No. CT21070 at the appropriate time.
- Exercised the powers conferred by section 147(4) of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 to appoint and authorise the following members of Council staff as set out in the Instrument: Manager Regulatory Services, Strategic Planning Coordinator, and Compliance Coordinator.
- On coming into force of the Instruments, revoked the previous appointment and authorisation for the Statutory Planning Coordinator, dated 27 February 2024.
