Anderson Street in Bright is set to get a glow up thanks to a collaborative project between Alpine Shire Council and the Bright and District Chamber of Commerce to improve the tired median strip.

The project, funded by a successful Tiny Towns grant application from the Chamber, addresses a long-standing issue with the median’s invasive root system.

The current median, planted with Ornamental Pear trees, has proven challenging to maintain due to the aggressive root systems which have overtaken the area, preventing grass establishment.

The proposed solution and works involve installing root barriers, adding mulch, establishing turf, upgrading existing irrigation lines, and installing uplighting to enhance the beauty of the trees.

“This is a fantastic partnership between Council and the Chamber of Commerce, directly addressing a visual amenity issue while ensuring the long-term health of the trees,” Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said.

“We appreciate the Chamber's initiative in securing this funding and working alongside us to achieve a positive outcome for Bright.”

Works will happen on Tuesday, 14 October 2025 and Wednesday, 15 October 2025, weather permitting.

During the works, there will be temporary changes to traffic flow and closure of a number of parking bays.

Council asks all motorists to please drive carefully through the area while their Engineering and Maintenance teams undertake the works.

Council extends their thanks to all community members for their patience and cooperation during these upgrades.
