Older residents across the Alpine Shire are being encouraged to connect, try something new and celebrate their contribution to the community as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival this October.
Running throughout October, the Victorian Seniors Festival is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate older people, while creating opportunities to stay active, connected and involved in community life.
This year’s Alpine Shire program brings together a diverse range of activities across the region, with something for a variety of interests.
Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said the festival was as much about connection as celebration.
“Our older residents make an enormous contribution to the Alpine Shire, through volunteering, sharing their knowledge and experience, supporting local organisations and simply being active members of their communities,” she said.
“The Victorian Seniors Festival gives us an opportunity to celebrate that contribution, while encouraging people to come together, meet others and enjoy some of the activities happening across our towns.”
“There is a great variety on offer this year, whether you’d like to learn something new, explore local history, enjoy food and entertainment or simply spend time connecting with others.”
Highlights include free Digital Library Basics sessions at Mount Beauty, Bright and Myrtleford libraries, helping participants discover eBooks, audiobooks, eNewspapers, eMagazines and other free resources available through their library membership.
There will also be opportunities to experience cultural storytelling with Ash Dargan in Myrtleford and Mount Beauty, enjoy local history and morning tea at the Bright Museum, or experience food, music and community connection through Tales and Tunes from the Kitchen in Myrtleford.
Other events throughout the month include a Movie and Morning Tea at Sun Cinema Bright, and the U3A Charity Dinner in Myrtleford.
Victorian Seniors Card holders can also enjoy free public transport across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria from 3 to 11 October, providing another opportunity to get out, explore and take part in festival activities.
The Victorian Seniors Festival runs from 1 to 31 October 2026. Some local activities require bookings or have an associated cost.
