Alpine Shire Council is celebrating the completion of significant upgrades in Harrietville, with the official opening of the Alpine Better Places – Dredge Hole Precinct project to be held on Friday, 18 July 2025.
The works, made possible through grant funding from the Australian Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program, have transformed key community spaces in Harrietville.
Enhancements include the construction of a new shelter at the Tronoh Dredge Hole carpark, a major upgrade to the Pioneer Park toilet facilities, the installation of 700 metres of linking asphalt paths, and extensive landscaping and amenity improvements across Pioneer Park, Tavare Park, and the Dredge Hole carpark area.
Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said the upgrades reflect the Council’s commitment to creating vibrant, accessible public spaces that support community wellbeing and tourism.
“Harrietville is such a special place for both locals and visitors, and these improvements help make sure the area’s natural beauty and strong community feel are matched by great facilities," she said.
“We’ve worked closely with the Harrietville community throughout this project, and their ideas and feedback played a big part in shaping the final design."
Cr Nicholas also acknowledged the importance of the funding support received through the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program.
“This project wouldn’t have happened without the support of the Australian Government, and we’re really thankful for the investment in our region’s recovery,” she added.
“It’s great to see how these upgrades bring the parks together and make it easier for people to move between them.”
The opening event will take place at Pioneer Park in Harrietville, near the newly upgraded toilet facility.
Community members are invited to enjoy coffee and snacks from HV Kitchen from 9.30am, with formal proceedings commencing at 10am.
