Applications for this year's grants will open at 9am on Monday, 11 May 2026, with funding from as little as $100 up to $10,000 available.

Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, acknowledged how invaluable local volunteer groups and organisations are to the local communities, bringing projects to live that otherwise may not happen.

“Behind every successful community project or event are volunteers contributing countless hours of their own time, often juggling work, family and other commitments to make something meaningful happen," she said.

“Funding helps fill the small but critical gaps – covering equipment, infrastructure or upfront costs – so volunteers can turn good ideas into safe, inclusive and well‑run projects and events for the whole community.”

Cr Nicholas said Council awarded grants to over 60 events and projects last year, investing around $250,000 into the local community.

“Last year’s grants supported the kinds of projects and events that really strengthen our communities – from improving shared halls, sporting facilities and accessibility, to supporting education, wellbeing, arts and environmental recovery," she said.

"Projects like the Alpine Valleys Autism Community’s wellbeing learning sessions show how funding can directly support inclusion and mental health, and the Mount Beauty Golf Club’s ability‑based tee boxes improved accessibility for players of all abilities."

Cr Nicholas said Council also backed a strong calendar of events that bring people together, attract visitors and support local businesses across the Shire.

“Smaller local events play a vital role in bringing people together and supporting local economies - they create welcoming spaces for community connection while showcasing local producers, makers and volunteers," she said.

"On the other end of the scale, major events such as the Bright Autumn Festival and Buffalo Stampede attract thousands of visitors to the region each year, delivering significant economic and social benefits for local communities and businesses."

Community groups and event organisers with varying interests are encouraged to apply, including those focused on advocacy, the environment, and sustainability, sporting groups, Traditional Owners of Country, and young people.

“If you have an idea that could help make our Shire even better - whether it’s something new or improving existing infrastructure, equipment or facilities - we strongly encourage you to apply and turn that idea into something the whole community can benefit from," Cr Nicholas said.

Applicants for both the Community Grants Program and Event Funding Program must apply online via the SmartyGrants grant management system. This user-friendly application portal ensures that grants are managed in the best possible way for both applicants and Council staff.

The maximum funding amount for both funding opportunities is $10,000. Applications close at 5pm on Sunday, 21 June 2026.
