Alpine Shire Council is inviting families to celebrate Children's Week 2026 by joining themed Story Time and Rhyme Time sessions at local libraries from 24 October to 1 November.
This year's Children's Week theme, "Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practice their religion", highlights the importance of respecting and valuing the diverse identities, cultures and traditions of all children.
Throughout Children's Week, Story Time and Rhyme Time sessions at Alpine Shire libraries will incorporate the 2026 theme through stories, songs and activities designed to encourage learning, inclusion and belonging.
As part of the celebrations, every child who attends a Story Time or Rhyme Time session during Children's Week will receive a free children's story book to take home and keep.
Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said Children's Week is an opportunity to recognise the rights of children and celebrate the important role they play in our communities.
"Children's Week encourages us to recognise and uphold the rights of every child while celebrating their unique identities, cultures and experiences," she said.
"Our libraries provide welcoming spaces where children can explore ideas, connect with stories and develop a lifelong love of reading."
Story Time and Rhyme Time sessions will be held at their usual scheduled times at Alpine Shire libraries throughout Children's Week, with more information available here: www.alpineshire.vic.gov.au/things-do/libraries
Families are encouraged to attend their local session and join in the celebrations.
