Charlie Bird
Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer, Charlie is responsible for leading and managing the organisation to ensure implementation of the goals and strategies endorsed by Council.
Charlie was appointed to the role of CEO in August 2017, after joining Council in February 2015. Charlie is an environmental engineer with a diverse background in water, local government and natural resource management in both public and private sectors.
Charlie enjoys delivering outcomes for the community and feels very fortunate to work in such an incredible part of the world.
As Director Assets, Will manages Council’s Asset Development, Asset Maintenance and Economic and Community Development departments.
Services include capital works, asset maintenance, parks and gardens, trees, environment, economic development, events, emergency management and community development.
Will has a Masters Degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford in the UK, and is a Chartered Professional Engineer and member of Engineers Australia.
Will worked for 16 years as a project manager in the oil and gas industry, initially for Shell and more recently for Woodside Energy. He joined Alpine Shire Council in early 2016.
Will enjoys making a difference for members of the community.
As Director Corporate Performance, Helen manages the Facilities, Technology and Transformation, Planning and Amenity and Corporate departments, with services including Customer Service, Planning and Building, Environmental Health and Local Laws.
Helen has a joint honours degree in Geography and Archaeology from Nottingham University. While an interesting area to study, Helen eventually pursued a career in the UK with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, here she worked across a range of corporate tax compliance roles for over 10 years.
Helen moved to a role with the Local Council where she lived in the UK, then lead the administration of a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic.
Bringing this broad range of skills and experience to the Alpine Shire, along with her husband and young family Helen is looking forward to serving the community in which she lives.
