The multi-billion package aims to to help businesses survive and keep Victorians in jobs, and includes more than $1 billion in cash grants to support those small and medium-sized businesses that are struggling in the face of COVID-19 restrictions.

Alpine Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Charlie Bird said the support is essential to help local business stay afloat through the impact of ongoing restrictions to trading and visitors.

“With COVID-19 following straight on from the summer’s bushfires, we know how much our local businesses are hurting at the moment,” he said.

“We’ve been advocating strongly for more support, and it’s fantastic to see the Government is listening and responding.

“Throughout this year we have ensured that the Government is aware of the impact of these emergencies on our local communities.

“We will continue to advocate on the importance of support for our businesses until restrictions are eased and the economy can begin to regenerate.”

Regional Victoria this week entered Step 2 of the Victorian Government’s Roadmap to COVID Normal.

A move to Step 3 will see travel permitted within Regional Victoria, and give many local businesses much-needed respite after months of uncertainty.

Mr Bird said Council is committed to working with businesses, community and Government in navigating through the next steps and establishing a COVID Normal that will rebuild the local economy.

“We will keep our business community updated as more information on this program becomes available and, as always we’re here to listen to any concerns,” he said.

The Victorian Government’s Business Survival and Adaptation Package includes:

  • Small and medium sized business ($822 million): The third round of the Business Support Fund will provide up to $20,000 for businesses.
