Mayoral elections were on Tuesday, 12 November, with two Councillors nominated for the top spot.

Cr Sarah Nicholas was re-elected Deputy Mayor for another term.

Cr Roper said he is excited to take on the challenge of leadership again, after serving as mayor from 2011 - 2014.

“I’m looking forward to the next 12 months, and am thrilled to be at the forefront of delivering important outcomes for the community,” he said.

“It’s an honour and privilege to serve the people of the Alpine Shire, and I can’t wait to see what the next year will bring.”

Cr Roper paid tribute to outgoing mayor Cr Ron Janas, who served four consecutive terms.

“I want to thank Cr Janas for his dedication as mayor,” he said.

“He is a man of true integrity and intelligence, and he served the people of the Alpine Shire with honesty and commitment.

“I’m looking forward to a debrief with a cross-section of representatives from key stakeholder groups next month to inform the preparation of next year’s event.

“Engaging with, and learning from the experiences of our communities are essential to truly good governance.”
