Manager Economic and Community Development Elaine Burridge said the annual program provided financial and logistic support to events that met key criteria, including community impact and benefit, expected economic and tourism benefits and event profile.
“This year we have allocated $68,000 in sponsorship and an estimated $71,000 in logistic support to 44 events, to be held in the Alpine Shire during 2019/2020,” she said.
“This support includes iconic long-running events such as the Dederang Picnic Races, Wandiligong Nut Festival and The Myrtleford Festival, as well as newer events like Get a Grip of the Grind and Darker Days.
“Events encouraging fitness, such as the Alfred 6 Hour, Alpine Classic and Harrietville Half will receive support, as will those celebrating creativity, art and culture – including Myrtleford’s La Fiera, The Bright Festival of Photography and Bright Cabaret and Comedy Festival.”
Ms Burridge said 49 applications were received and assessed against key criteria.
“The panel was impressed by the quality of many of the applications - the final result covers a broad range of events catering for many tastes and locations,” she said.
“Events are important to the Alpine Shire, providing an economic boost and cultural enrichment.”
Outside of the Event Funding Program, Council has committed to provide $40,000 in financial sponsorship to the 2019 Spartan Trifecta Event and $20,000 in financial sponsorship to the 2020 Mountain Bike Australia National Championships.
