Australia Day is about acknowledging and celebrating the contribution that every single Australian makes to our innovative and diverse country.

Alpine Shire Council Mayor John Forsyth said Council is proud to be a sponsor of the annual events, which recognise those locals who have made a difference to their community.

“After what was a challenging 2020, all Alpine Shire residents should be proud of their resilience and perseverance,” he said.

“As we welcome the new year with hope and optimism, we encourage members of the community to come together at your nearest COVID-Safe breakfast or morning tea event, and celebrate the commitment and generosity of the nominees.”

The annual Alpine Shire Australia Day Community Awards will be awarded, celebrating local achievers, young achievers, community groups and events.

Bright’s Sibley Soundshell has received a fresh new look thanks to funding from the Australia Day Council.

The work, which features a stunning mural depicting the local natural landscape and wildlife, will be officially launched at the Bright Australia Day ceremony.

Two new citizens will be welcomed in a special citizenship ceremony during the Myrtleford event.
