Residents and visitors are invited to join in Australia Day celebrations being held across the Alpine Shire this Sunday.

Alpine Shire Council Mayor Peter Roper said Council is a proud sponsor of the annual events, which recognise local residents who have made a difference to their community.

“These annual celebrations are a fantastic way for us to recognise just some of the residents who make our towns such wonderful places to live and visit,” he said.

“These breakfasts and morning teas are a wonderful way for communities to reconnect, particularly after the events of the past few weeks.

“We’re encouraging everyone to come along for a barbecue breakfast or morning tea, have a chat, meet new people and reconnect with friends you may not have seen for a while.”

The annual Alpine Shire Australia Day Community Awards will be awarded, celebrating local achievers, young achievers, community groups, events and the citizen of the year.

Eight new citizens will be welcomed in a special citizenship ceremony during the Mount Beauty event.
