The Alpine Shire Council Access and Inclusion Plan 2021-2024 aims for equitable and dignified access to services, facilities, communications and employment processes for people with disability.

Alpine Shire Mayor John Forsyth said the three-year plan outlines overarching objectives and desired outcomes to support Council and the community to become more inclusive and accessible.

“Council plays a key role in working towards an inclusive society, increasing awareness of the positive contribution that people with disability bring to local communities and removing barriers that prevent people with disability fully participating in their local environment,” he said.

“We’re proud to present this plan, which frames our commitment to people with disability towards a focus on access and inclusion in day-to-day life.

“This is achieved by imbedding access and inclusion for people with disability in the Shire’s services, programs, activities, communication and employment opportunities.”

The Draft Access and Inclusion Plan has been developed in consultation with key internal and external stakeholders, and recommends that Access and Inclusion be considered in all aspects of Council’s work.

Cr Forsyth said Council has a responsibility to lead by example to increase awareness of the barriers impacting people with disability.

“This also means supporting local businesses and community members to be aware of the importance of access and inclusion in their daily lives and operations,” he said.

“To understand the unique challenges that face our local communities when it comes to access and inclusion for people with disability, we want to know what you think of the draft plan.”

The Draft Access and Inclusion Plan is available for public comment until Tuesday, 7 September 2021.
