About the project

Managed by the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) and run by a private operator, the park faced an uncertain future, due in part to wastewater management issues.

Funded by the Victorian Government and delivered by Council, the project aims to bring the park up to industry standard and support local tourism.

The upgrade will address current critical infrastructure issues and revamp the park’s amenities.

We know many visitors love the Tawonga Caravan Park, and have been spending holidays there for years.

The facilities have become run down and the park is in serious need of infrastructure and amenity improvements to ensure it meets requirements to operate.

The park is an important asset to the local economy. This project aims to bring the facility to a modern standard while still preserving the character and charm that visitors enjoy.

Council has taken over formal management of the site from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).

Works include upgrades to sewer infrastructure and electrical and fire services.

The majority of the project budget will be used for the service upgrades, particularly in addressing the existing wastewater issues.

While upgrades to services are essential for the operation of the park, there will also be some refurbishment and construction of park facilities.

The project has been made possible with funding from the Victorian Government and the support of DELWP.

Latest Update

April 2023 | Celebrations for Tawonga Tourist Park reopening

Visitors and locals alike are invited to the Park from 1pm until 5pm, for the formal celebrations and ribbon cutting, followed by family friendly games and live music by local musicians, Josh and Evie.

Food and drinks will be available to purchase from a variety of local food vendors.

The reopening comes almost three years after the park was closed in May 2020 due to critical wastewater management issues.

Having taken formal management of the site from Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), Council has now completed extensive infrastructure works to ensure the park meets requirements to operate.

Works had included new sewer infrastructure, as well as electrical and fire services.

The Park is now connected to the North East Water sewerage network, and electrical services, including pole mounted transfers, switch boards and in-ground cabling, have all been upgraded.

We’ve also installed new fire protection infrastructure, such as fire hydrants, an in-ground water supply, fire water tank and hose reel.

While most of the works had been completed underground, visitors to the Park will see revamped streetlighting, a refurbished camp kitchen and renovated amenity blocks.

They’ll also notice a new driveway, park entrance and carpark, and of course the brand new park administration building, which encompasses an office, public toilet, and retail and cafe space.

New park operator BelgraviaPRO is also busy upgrading the existing cabins, and will invest over $2 million into park infrastructure over the term of the lease, including new cabins, a playground, bike storage, glamping and other capital works.

The project has been made possible with funding from the Victorian Government and the support of DEECA.
