About the project

Council’s recently completed Sport and Active Recreation Plan has identified the need to undertake master planning for three key locations in the municipality so that they can meet both the existing and future needs of the community.

Each of these sites provides an array of sport and active recreation facilities and infrastructure of various sizes, ages, layout and condition.

Pioneer Park in Bright, the Sports and Education Precinct in Mount Beauty and Myrtleford’s town centre sports and recreation facilities were identified as the key sites.

Pioneer Park includes the Pavilion, BBQ facilities (adjacent to the Pavilion), the main football and cricket oval, cricket nets, equestrian area, netball court, pump track, Mystic Mountain trail head car park, playground, Scout Hall/Alpine Cycling Club rooms, tennis courts, and the Oaks Lawn.

The Sports and Education Precinct in Mount Beauty includes the pondage walking trail and boat ramp, Bicentennial Park including the playground and BBQ facilities, skate park, BMX track, Mount Beauty Cricket Ground (football and cricket ground), Mount Beauty Recreation Reserve Pavilion, cricket nets, netball court, tennis courts and clubhouse, Scout Hall, Les Peart Oval (next to the secondary college), Mount Beauty Swimming Pool and the indoor stadium.

Myrtleford’s town centre sports and active recreation facilities includes facilities within Memorial Park, McNamara Reserve, Jubilee Park, Rotary Park, Swinburne Park, Cundy Park, the Savoy Soccer Club, Marconi Park and the Myrtleford Recreation Reserve.

Some of the key challenges that these master plans aim to address include:

  • Improving accessibility and inclusiveness for all
  • Determining the need for additional facilities and infrastructure
  • Identifying appropriate facility renewals
  • Determining the best location for specific sport and active recreation activities
  • Creating improved opportunities for informal recreational opportunities
  • Determining ways to better activate and connect the spaces
  • Creating improved active transport linkages to sites

The master plans and concept designs produced for each location will guide the upgrade and development of Alpine Shire’s key sport and active recreation facilities over the next 10 years.

Latest Update

March 2023

Council is calling on active users of their local sports and recreation spaces and facilities to help them plan for the future of key sites across the municipality.

Master planning for Pioneer Park in Bright, the Sports and Education Precinct in Mount Beauty, and Myrtleford’s town centre sports and recreation facilities is currently underway in order to meet both the existing and future needs of the community. as identified in Council’s recently completed Sport and Active Recreation Plan.

Each of these sites provides an array of sport and active recreation spaces and infrastructure of various sizes, ages, layout and condition.

Council is currently seeking input from regular users of these sites to help us address some of the key challenges we face, including improving accessibility and inclusiveness for all, finding ways to better activate spaces, determining the need for renewals or additional facilities and infrastructure.

Input from the community will also help determine the best location for specific sport and active recreation activities, and create improved opportunities for informal recreational opportunities.

Council has recently met face-to-face with formal sports and recreation user groups of each location and would also like to hear from individual or informal users.

Whether you visit the playgrounds with your children, use parks for exercise, or meet with friends for casual sports and activities, we’d love to hear from everybody who is interested in the future of these areas.

The Sports and Recreation Master Plans survey is now open and will close at 5pm on Friday, 24 March.
