A Community Vision with a focus on resilience, prosperity and sustainability is part of a suite of vital guiding documents adopted by Alpine Shire Council this week.
At the recent October meeting Council adopted its Community Vision 2040, four-year Council Plan and 10-year Financial Plan.
Alpine Shire Mayor John Forsyth said the development of the Community Vision and Council Plan gave Council an insight to the future aspirations of the Alpine community.
“We have a responsibility to listen to our communities as we make our way through the current pandemic and plan for a prosperous future,” he said.
“We know that our community is seeking strong leadership on critical issues that impact them, like housing availability and climate change.”
“These documents articulate our commitment to continue to lead and support our community in a way that is collaborative, decisive and bold.”
Following broad community engagement, the Community Vision and Council Plan were drafted and finalised through deliberative engagement with the volunteer Alpine Community Panel.
“These are community documents, developed by community members to ensure that Council’s planning is reflective of local needs and aspirations into the future,” Cr Forsyth said.
“The Community Panel members were an essential part of the process and I’m grateful for their hard work and time.”
Amendments in the final document incorporated feedback submitted by the community during the final public submission phase, which closed in early September.
“I’m proud to adopt these documents - we have worked closely with our community to create an important strategic direction with a hopeful eye to the future,” Cr Forsyth said.
“My fellow Councillors and I look forward to delivering on our commitments over the next three years of our term.”
“We also hope that the community will join us in this ambitious plan for our Shire and take positive steps to assist us all reach our vision.”
The Community Vision 2040 describes the community’s aspirations for the future of the Alpine Shire, through to the year 2040.
The Council Plan 2021-2025 incorporating the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan is a key guiding document for the current Council term.
The Financial Plan 2021/22 to 2030/31 documents the financial resources needed for Council to support the goals of the Community Vision and Council Plan.
