About

Do you have a project on Council land or in a Council-owned facility that you think should be included in our next budget?

Community members, clubs, sporting groups and organisations are invited to submit proposals for possible inclusion in the next budget.

This new and improved submissions process puts the community at the forefront of how we budget.

Submissions are now open!

In the past we have encouraged the public to share their views on a draft budget - this year we need their help to shape our budget before the draft stage.

This will ensure successful proposals are identified and incorporated into the budget early, and the community’s voice is heard during the preparation of this important document.

We’re looking forward to seeing some fantastic proposals come in - we have some passionate community members out there with great ideas!

If you need it, help is available to complete the online application process. You will receive prompt feedback on your submissions once the submissions period has been closed.

You will be able to connect with Councillors and staff face-to-face at Community Pop-Ups in January and February to discuss your ideas.

Come and chat to Councillors and staff at:

  • Harrietville Bush Market | Sunday, 8 January | 9am - 1pm | Tavare Park, Harrietville
  • Bright Make It, Bake It, Grow It Market | Saturday, 21 January | 9am - 1pm | Howitt Park, Bright
  • Myrtleford Farmer’s Market | Saturday, 28 January | 8.30am - 12.30pm | Piazza, Myrtleford
  • Mount Beauty Market | Saturday, 4 February | 9am - 1pm | Hydro Park, Mount Beauty

Frequently Asked Questions

What has changed for 2023/24 Budget Submission process?

We are moving the timing for submissions from our community to earlier than has been the case in previous budget cycles. In addition, we are utilising an online submission platform which we believe will be an efficient process for community groups and individuals to use.

When can we submit our ideas seeking Council support for our projects and ideas?

The submission process will be open from Monday December 12, 2022, through Sunday February 12, 2023.

Will there be assistance to help me with the submission process?

Yes, in addition to guidelines assisting you with the process you can contact Council for support if needed.

What is the level of detail required as part of my submission?

As much detail as you believe will do justice to your submission and assist Council Officers and Councillors in assessing the merits of the submission. The submission platform provides you with the opportunity to upload supporting documentation, e.g. business cases, plans, approvals/supporting correspondence from relevant stakeholders etc…

Will I get the opportunity as in previous years to present my submission to Councillors in person?

That’s the plan.

Will Council Officers and Councillors be out and about across the Shire during the two-month period to provide insight and guidance on Council’s ability to support projects and ideas submitted by the community?

Indeed, there are plans for a communication and engagement campaign with the community involving “pop ups” at key community events over the summer.

What is a key ASC document I should review prior to preparing my submission?

The Council Plan is a great starting point to understand what the current Council intends to deliver over its four-year term. Key strategies and themes in this document should guide you on what Councillors are seeking to deliver for the community. Our recently published Annual Report for 2021/22 and the 2022/23 Budget document will also be helpful to you in understanding Council's financial capacity when it comes to supporting projects submitted by the Community.

When and how will I know whether my submission has been supported or not?

Council Budget decisions are made in Chambers at Council meetings and also a formal written response to submitters on the outcome of their submissions will be sent after the 2023/24 Budget has been formally adopted.
