Help Council shape the future of the Alpine Shire!

Council is embarking on an exciting strategic planning project that will outline the strategic direction and priorities for our future.

Throughout this project Council will be developing a:

  • Community Vision - a long-term vision that outlines the aspirations and goals of the Alpine Share community and what you want to see in the future
  • Council Plan – a four year plan that outlines how Council’s role and hot it will pursue the aspirations and goals outlined in the Community Vison and other strategic priorities.
  • Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan – which includes an examination of the health and wellbeing of our community, setting goals and strategies with the assistance of community feedback to achieve better public health and wellbeing, and measuring our success.
  • Financial Plan – a long-term plan that ensures the Council has the financial resources to implement its plans and strategies over the coming years
  • Asset Plan – provides a view of how the Council proposes to manage the full portfolio of assets that it owns.

How you can be involved

Phase 1 - Community Engagement

From 11 March – 8 April 2021 we are encouraged all residents of the Alpine Shire to participate in the first phase of engagement and share their aspirations, insights and ideas for our Community Vision and Council Plan incorporating the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.

Your feedback will also inform other important projects that are being undertaken like Council’s Land Development Strategy and Planning Scheme Review.

You can have your say by:

  • Joining us at one of the Community Pop-up events happening near you:

Dinner Plain (Online via Zoom) – 8 April – 5:30 - 7:30pm - Register here.

Community Panel

The feedback received will feed into the deliberations of a Community Panel made up of Alpine Shire residents who will form recommendations to Council in the development of the Community Vision and Council Plan.

Council is now calling for expressions of interest from community members to join the panel for a period of two years.

The Panel will be made up of 40 ratepayers and residents that will discuss local issues and ideas and provide feedback to Council over a period of two years on a range of projects.

Members will be selected to ensure the panel is representative of the community.

The first projects that will be referred to the Panel include:

  • The Alpine Shire’s Community Vision
  • The Council Plan (incorporating the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan)
  • Council’s Long Term Financial Plan

The Panel will initially meet four times from 29 April to 2 May 2021 to consider these three projects, with each session between three and four hours long.

The Panel will also contribute to Council’s Land Development Strategy.  It is anticipated that this work would occur in May and June 2021 with dates and Panel availability to be discussed with the Panel members closer to the time.

The form will ask you for some basic personal information that will help ensure we have a Community Panel that is representative of the Council area. This information will be treated as confidential.

Hard copy forms are available at Council’s Bright Offices and Bright, Myrtleford and Mount Beauty libraries.

The expression of interest process has been extended to 5pm on Thursday, 8 April and applicants will be notified if they have been selected to join the Community Panel shortly after close.

If you have any questions about the Community Panel or the expression of interest process, please contact Council on(03) 5755 0555 or email
