Mount Buffalo ready for investment

The findings of the Mount Buffalo Business Case Assessment, carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), are now available to the public on Council’s website.

Led by the Mount Buffalo Activation Taskforce, the report provides an assessment of seven concepts identified in the Vision for Mount Buffalo document for their potential commercial and broader economic benefit.

Mayor Ron Janas said the Chalet, and the mountain as a whole, are incredible assets for our community and beyond – from an environmental, heritage, tourism and economic perspective.

“This has been a really important project, we’re proud of what has been achieved to date – the Mount Buffalo Business Case Assessment Project is more than a feasibility study – for the first time ever the relevant parties have been working together in one room, towards a common goal.

It is now our first priority to see the realisation of the food and beverage concept. A café will reinvigorate the iconic building and will reconnect people to the Chalet. It will build confidence with the community, business operators and potential investors” Mayor Janas said.

“We need to maintain momentum and see on-the-ground results as soon as possible.”

Cr Janas said Council would continue to advocate on behalf of the community to secure investment in the Chalet café.

“This is the first critical step to encourage increased visitation, business opportunities and investment,” he said.

The Taskforce and key stakeholders are supportive of the project and it will complement the planned improvements to the Gorge Day Visitor area.

“We are passionate about seeing the realisation of a whole of mountain vision, and are closer than we have ever been to seeing the reinvigoration of the Mount Buffalo Chalet.”
