Annual road resealing to commence this week

Alpine Shire Council’s annual road resealing program is set begin this Wednesday.

Every year council reseals a portion of the local road network with various treatments in either the Ovens or Kiewa Valleys.
Council’s Manager Asset Development Will Jeremy said the resealing program ensures council managed roads are maintained to the best standard possible.

“It is often a misconception that people can’t understand why we are resealing what appears to be a perfectly good road, but roads are carefully selected for resealing at a point before we are likely to see an increase in the need for expensive pavement repairs,” he said.

“Council spends approximately $500,000 each year, making sure our local roads are kept in the best possible condition, and the resealing program ensures a good balance between maintaining the high standard of road surfaces throughout the shire, whilst minimising the overall road maintenance costs.”

Mr Jeremy said this year’s program would focus on the Myrtleford and district area.

“Roads receiving treatment will be in and around Myrtleford, Mudgegonga, Ovens, Buffalo River, Gapsted and Merriang,” he said.

“Not all roads will be fully resealed, there may only be some segments that are done, however there will be a number of small streets which will be completely resealed.

“Motorists and residents should be aware that there may be some short delays whilst the works are being done.”

Roads being resealed are:
Myrtleford - McDonald Drive, Buffalo Creek Road, Old Ovens Highway, Lewis Avenue (Bowls Club), Maude Street, Shared Path Myrtleford, Whalleys Lane, Duke Street, Undara Road (South Section), Robert Street, Forest Road, Ashdowne Avenue, Lowerson Street, Macaulay Grove, Williams Street, Kneebone Court
