New court in time for netball season

28 March, 2014

BRIGHT netballers will step onto a brand new court for their first home game of the season next month.

The new court is situated beside the pavilion and toilet block, better tying in the football and netball facilities into a centralised sporting hub.

Alpine Shire Council Manager Project Delivery John Carter said the $114,000 project has resulted in an excellent facility for netballers of all abilities.

“The result is fantastic – a court that is suitable for game and training under lights, can be used as an events space and brings the netballers into the heart of the recreation precinct at Pioneer Park,” he said.

“The United Bright Football Netball Club (UBFNC) has been a key driver behind the project and the fantastic result has been assisted by in-kind donations and volunteer work by members who are clearly passionate about the facility.

“This is a great example of what can be achieved when Council and the community work together towards a common goal.”

Players will step out onto the court for the first official O&K Football Netball League game when Bright hosts Moyhu for the second round of the season on Saturday, 5 April.

The work has been funded through a $60,000 State Government Sports and Recreation Victoria grant, and $20,000 from Council’s Capital Works budget. Council contributed a further $24,000 to equip the site with the capacity to support events, extending the concrete area beside the pavilion.

The project has also been made possible by a significant in-kind contribution from the UBFNC, along with a $10,000 cash contribution, enabling construction of a retaining wall/shelter and seating and additional concrete area to support the erection of a marquee for events.
