Bright Sports Centre pool access chair

Bright Sports Centre pool now more accessible

14 February 2014

PEOPLE with limited mobility have a way to enjoy the Bright Sports Centre pool, with the recent addition of a lift chair to the centre’s equipment.

Council purchased the equipment last year following a request from a community member highlighting the need to improve pool access for people with limited mobility.

Alpine Shire Mayor Peter Roper said the lift chair provides an essential service for people with limited mobility to access the only year-round heated pool in the Shire.

“This is a fantastic piece of equipment that will help people who may otherwise have struggled to access the pool to enjoy the benefits of swimming,” he said.

“Council has committed to support people with a disability to optimise their participation in the life of their local community, and this is a great example of that commitment.

“Improving access and services for all members of our communities are essential to our role as Local Government.”

The provision of this equipment forms part of the Alpine Shire Rural Access (Disability) Action Plan for 2013 – 2015.

The $12,000 for the equipment was funded in part through the Department of Health’s Improving Living for Older Persons program, Department of Human Services’ Rural Access (Disability) and Council.
