Community grants to be announced in early February

Community groups hoping to share in Alpine Shire Council’s $90,000 Community Grants Program will be notified in early February, according to Mayor Cr Nino Mautone.

Cr Mautone said that Council had received 64 applications requesting a total of $288,697.65 by the 21 December deadline.

“A panel of community, Council and Youth Council representatives will assess the merits of each application, and will ultimately decide which are successful,” he said.

“The panel will be looking for sustainable projects that can be maintained and projects that support diversity, community participation and the building of healthy and strong communities.

“Applications featuring a contribution from the community group will be looked upon favourably, as will those where the community group works in partnership with other organisations.

Cr Mautone said the panel would aim to reward the projects with the most benefit to the community, and to ensure there is an even spread across the Alpine Shire.

“It is important to assist our community groups who make a valuable contribution to community wellbeing in the Alpine Shire,” he said.

“Unfortunately Council does not have the funds to reward every single community project.

“However we are confident that the panel will reward the most deserving applications, assisting our community to be healthy, vibrant and secure.”

The successful applications will be notified by post, after they are approved at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday, 1 February at the Bright Council Chamber from 7:30pm.
