Alpine Shire Council Flood Update

The Myrtleford Emergency Relief Centre will be open today from 12pm until 5pm in response to today’s flood event.

Representatives from the Department of Human Services, Ovens and King Health, the Red Cross and Alpine Shire Council will be available for those in need.

The Myrtleford Emergency Relief Centre is located at the Myrtleford Senior Citizens Centre on Smith Street and can be contacted on (03) 5755 0555.

The Ovens River at Myrtleford is still rising however it is not expected to reach the levels of the September flood event.

The Ovens River is expected to drop this afternoon, while the Kiewa River is slowly dropping.

Flash flooding has caused extensive damage to a number of bridges in Myrtleford around Barwidgee Creek and Happy Valley Creek.

There has also been extensive damage to roads and infrastructure in the Kiewa Valley.

Council is prioritising and working through a long list of requests for assistance in the repair of roads and culverts.

Alpine Shire Council advises that the following roads are currently closed due to flooding.

Kiewa Valley

  • Ryders Lane
  • Mountain Creek Road
  • Damms Road
  • Redbank Road
  • Bogong High Plains Road
  • Mullagong Road


  • Stanley Road
  • Nug Nug Road
  • Buffalo River Road
  • Maude Street
  • Whalley’s Lane
  • Myrtleford Bowling Club Car Park


  • Selzers Lane
  • Happy Valley Road

There is also water over a number of other roads including the Great Alpine Road at Wobonga Lane, Eurobin.

Motorists are still able to pass through this section; however Council is urging they use extreme caution.

The Myrtleford Swimming Pool is also closed.
