|WALKERS and runners alike are preparing for the challenge of tackling the region’s most well-known mountains this month. |
The 32nd annual 4 Peaks climb will be held from Saturday, 3 November - Tuesday, 6 November.
Originally the Bright Alpine Climb, this popular event first began in 1979 as a way to encourage walkers into the hills to enjoy of the superb scenery the area has to offer.
Runners have joined the climbers and added excitement to the event.
Alpine Shire Council’s Event Development Officer Melanie Tekin said the appeal of 4 Peaks was its accessibility to many ages and abilities.
“Olympians use the event for conditioning, to enjoy some high altitude training or beat that personal best previously set in the last 32 years,” she said.
“4 Peaks is a family friendly event and all who have a basic fitness level are encouraged to participate, regardless of age.
Over the four days climbers can choose to tackle Mystic Hill, Mount Feathertop, Mount Hotham and Mount Buffalo.
“We live in a stunningly beautiful part of the world and this event showcases the best we have to offer,” Ms Tekin said.
