Alpine Shire Council values the views and opinions of its residents and many of them are actively involved in their local community. Residents of the Shire have a strong history of volunteerism and a great amount of good work is carried out by community groups and individuals in their local communities.

Committees of Council
While there are many ways in which Council encourages community participation, Council has constituted five main community committees and another 16 Committees of Management assist with the administration of Council’s halls, reserves and pools.

Dinner Plain Advisory Committee
Dinner Plain is structured as a self-funding business unit of Alpine Shire Council. The Dinner Plain Advisory Committee's objectives are to:

* recommend the range and level of services which meet the needs of the Dinner Plain community;
* recommend a method of funding those services which provides balance and equity;
* participate in the development of strategic and statutory plans affecting Dinner Plain.
* participate in the preparation of the Dinner Plain section of the draft Council budget considering input from the Dinner Plain community in relation to expenditure and funding which are directly applicable to the Dinner Plain area; and
* participate in the development and review of all strategic plans for Dinner Plain.

Community Development Committee
The Community Development Committee comprises nine members who are elected for a three-year term with one-third of members retiring annually.

The current Community Development Committee members are:

Annie Marlow
Cheryl Sanderson
Judith Brine
Jan Hutton
Maritta Newport
Dorothy Morrison
Suesan Gliddon

One of the Committee’s main roles is to oversee the implementation of the Alpine Shire Council Community Wellbeing Plan.

Recreation Services Committee
The Recreation Services Committee provides advice and input to Council on the planning, provision, funding and management of recreation facilities, programs and opportunities within the Alpine Shire.

Members are appointed for a two year term.

Current members are:

Lena Mero
Rhonda Serpell
Chris Walkear

Youth Council
Young people aged 12 to 24 years, comprising both individuals and representatives of each of the five secondary schools in the Shire, give a youth perspective on Council activities and provide a voice for the young in our community.

The Youth Council is elected annually and has input into a range of activities.

The 2012 Youth Council has been appointed. More information on the 2012 Youth Councillors is available here.

Local Voices
The Local Voices forums use a process known as deliberative democracy. Alpine Shire and the Rural City of Wangaratta Council's are combining for this first of its kind consultation process in north-east Victoria. See below to find out more.
