| Starting your own business | | Business Victoria, in conjuction with State and Local Government has developed website resources to provide interested persons with information about where to begin when starting a new business, and support tools for those already in business. Useful tools such as business planning, home-based businesses, food premises, retail business and much more is available on this site.

| Statistics | | The Alpine Shire Council also conducts an analysis of census data and surveys visitors and business to create a profile of our community.
The Department of Planning and Community Development's Know your area provides a range of ABS data and statistics about the people of an area and how they live. Information specifically about the Alpine Shire can be found at the following link: Know your area - Alpine Shire.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics website is also an invaluable tool for providing information on all aspects of census and other data. Specific information from the 2006 Census data can be found on this site.
The Spatial Analysis and Research Branch of the Department of Planning and Community Development conducts research and analysis across a range of topics including population, housing, land development, employment and sustainability. A large range of publications, online resources and statistical information can be sourced on this site.

| Business training | | The Alpine Shire offers a comprehensive program of support to businesses, including a training calendar for business owners, operators and staff. The training calendar offers skills-based workshops which are also structured to provide networking opportunities.

| Visitor Research - Alpine Shire - 2007/08 | | In an increasingly competitive tourism marketplace, immediate access to a range of insightful visitor data is of vital importance so that: • Council can better understand the economic contribution of the tourism industry; • the ongoing performance of the tourism industry can be monitored; and • potential new target markets are identified.
The base sources of data presented in this report are the: • National Visitor Survey (NVS); • International Visitor Survey (IVS);
• Alpine Shire Visitor Survey (AVS); and • Tourism Satellite Account.
