Dinner Plain, the only new township to be created in Victoria in the past 80 years, is continuing to grow from strength to strength.
The alpine village was created in 1985 and is the only Australian alpine resort to be managed by local government – by the Alpine Shire.
Dinner Plain is also home to the Alpine School; a centre for leadership, outdoor and enterprise education for Year 9 students in Victorian Government schools.

| Revegetation and landscaping workshop | | The revegetation and landscaping workshop was held at Dinner Plain on Saturday 31t October to introduce the availability of indigenous plant stock to property owners and occupants. Notification of the workshop was provided via two mail outs to the 575 Dinner Plain ratepayers as well as advertising in the Talking Stick, Alpine Shire and Dinner Plain websites and posters distributed through the village.
The workshop was attended by about 30 participants many of whom purchased plants. Topics covered in the workshop included site preparation, planting and ongoing maintenance. Additionally participants were provided with information regarding obtaining materials including top soil, rock and suitable mulch.
Despite some purchases there are a significant number of plants remaining. Marketing of the availability of these plants continues, however the window of opportunity for planting is quickly diminishing. Consequently it is proposed to use the plants for Alpine Shire revegetation projects, primarily Scrubbers End car park and environs.
Additionally talks are currently being held with Landcare for the supply of plants for a community revegetation project focusing on one or two of the reserves in Dinner Plain.
Some plants will also be retained to support another revegetation workshop scheduled for the March long weekend. Top
