Local laws are used to keep the peace and harmony within the community. They are administered by the following authorised officers:-

Local Law No.1 - Council Administration
 Provide for the peace, order and good government of the municipal district of the Alpine Shire Council
 Provide for those matters which require a local law under the Local Government Act
 Regulate the use of the Common Seal, election of Mayor and the proceedings of Council and the Committees of Council

Local Law No. 1 - Council Administration


 
Local Law No.2 - Municipal Places
 to allow and protect the quiet enjoyment by people of municipal places within the municipal district
 to enable people in the municipal district to carry out their day to day activities and to enjoy their recreational pursuits without havng their peace and enjoyment interfered with or destroyed
 to recognise and respond to community expectations relating to the quality of life they expect and require are capable of inflencing
 to control and prevent behaviour which is a nusiance, or which may be detrimental to health and safety or which affects the enjoyment of recreational or other facilities
 to enable the community and visitors and their families who use municipal places that are available to the public to be confident in their choice of the use of those facilities or places
 to protect Council and community assets and facilities on or in municipal places
 in a way which is consistent with, and in furthance of, the objectives specified in the above paragraphs to prohibit, regulate and control - (a) behaviour in municipal places which is boisterous, harmful or intimidation (b) behaviour in municipal places which is offensive, dangerous or threatening or which, for other reasons, is inappropriate in a municipal district (c) the places and times at which alcohol may be consumed
 to provide generally for the peace, order and good government of the municipal district
 to provide for the administration of the council's powers and functions

Local Law No. 2 - Municipal Places


 
Local Law No.3 - Dinner Plain
 to prohibit, regulate and control activities which may be dangerous or unsafe or detrimental to the quality of life at Dinner Plain
 to provide a safe and healthy environment in which the residents of and visitors to Dinner Plain enjoy a quality of life that meets the general expectations of the community
 to facilitate the provision of general public services, property services, recreation and cultural services, and other services in a way which enhances the environment and quality of life at Dinner Plain
 In a way which is consistent with, and in furtherance of, the objectives specified in the above paragraphs to prohibit, regulate and control activities and circumstances associated with :- (a) use of snowmobile vehciles which are not used appropriately (b) control of dogs (c) maintenance of off street car parking spaces via snow clearing to allow the use thereof (d) provision of rubbish bin enclosures (e) minor structures (f) camping (g) consumption of alcoholic beverages

Local Law No. 3 - Dinner Plain


 
Local Law No.4 - Livestock
 to regulate the movement and droving of livestock through and within the municipal district and the grazing of livestock within the municipal district
 to minimise any damage to road pavements, formations, drainage, vegetation and surrounding areas arising from livestock
 to minimise the spread of livestock disease and noxious weeds in the municipal district
 to provide the welfare of livestock when being driven, grazed or moved
 to alert other road users to the presence on roads of livestock in the municipal district in the interests of safe use of roads
 to regulate the adequacy of fencing of livestock
 to put in place mechanisms for rectifing inadequate fencing
 to fix fees or charges relating to the impounding of livestock and all other costs incidental thereto and for road use by livestock within the municipal district
 to enter arrangements with neighbouring councils relating to impounding, collecting trespassing livestock, housing and releasing those livestock
 to prescribe penalties for the contravention of any provision of this local law
 to provide generally for the peace, order and good government of the municipal district including in particular the administration of council's powers and functions

Local Law No. 4 - Livestock

 
Local Law No.5 - Environment
 to provide a safe and healthy environment in which the residents of the municipal district enjoy a quality of life that meets the general expectations of the community
 to prohibit, regulate and control activities which may be dangerous or unsafe or detrimental to the quality of life in an environment to the municipal district
 to facilitate the provision of general public services, health and other community services, property services, recreational and cultural services, and other services in a way which enhances the environment and quality of life in the municipal district
 to control nuisances and noise, odour and smoke emissions, and other discharges to the environment which may adversely affect the enjoyment of life within the municipal district or the health, safety and welfare of persons within the municipal district
 in a way which is consistent with, and in furthance of, the objectives specified in the above paragraphs to prohibit, regulate and control activities and circumstances associated with :- (a) smoke emission, particularly emission from burning material (b) use of recreational vehicles, particularly recreational vehicles which are not used on appropriate land or reserves or which emit excessive noise or air pollution (c) fire hazards (d) dangerous and unsightly land (e) camping (f) water quality, including interference with water courses (g) animals, including animal numbers and the keeping and control of animals (h) disposal of waste including behaviour associated with tips
 to provide for the peace order and good government of the municipal district
 to provide for the administration of the Council's powers and functions

Local Law No.5 - Environment

 
Local Law No.6 - Streets and Roads
 providing for the management of the physical features of the road, and adjacent properties and advertising signage in a manner which is consistent with the safety and convenience of people travelling on or using the road
 protecting the visual amenity of the environment by the management of the display of advertising signs on roadways
 controlling the use of various types of vehicles and animals for the safety and convenience of road users
 providing for the preservation and protection of the Council's assets from damage which may be caused from the extraordinary use of roads
 controlling and regulating secondary activities on roads, inclucing trading, the placing of goods and equipment, repairs to vehicles, parties, festivals, processions, busking and storage of materials
 facilitating free and safe access for people with sight movement impairment or disabilities
 providing for the safe and efficient management and control of parking on roads in the municipal district

Local Law No. 6 - Streets and Roads

 
Local Law No.7 - Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail
In August 2009, Council, in accordance with Section 119 of the Local Government Act, implemented a new Local Law 7: Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail.

The purpose of Local Law 7 is to control and regulate activity and access to the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail.
