Harrietville is located in the Ovens Valley at the foot of Mount Hotham, and is 22km from Bright.

Community Building Initiative
The Harrietville township is part of the Community Building Initiative (CBI). Each town in the CBI program has developed a Community Atlas containing information including a town profile, asset mapping, results of community workshops identifying the needs and aspirations of the town, what is planned for the town, challenges and next steps as well as a community action plan. Each atlas also has supporting information regarding demographics and statistical information.

The atlas documents are too large to appear on Council's website. Full documents including photographs can be obtained by requesting the full atlas series on CD Rom, from the Community Services department on (03) 5755 0555, or by requesting via email.

Statistical data has been summarised from Australian Bureau of Statistics information for each town, creating a township 'demographic profile' . The Harrietville profile can be obtained here.

CBI committees produce their own newsletters for local residents. Copies are available at the Harrietville General Store.

Harrietville Small Town Framework Plan
Small Town Framework Plans consider the issues and opportunities specific to each township and provide recommendations for improvements according to community and Council priority.

The Framework Plans consider issues under the topics of planning, infrastructure, place making and community development. Initially developed through comprehensive community consultation the Small Town Framework Plans are reviewed annually to ensure Council efforts are aligned with community priorities.

Small Town Framework Plans for 2009 have been updated, and are currently on exhibition for public comment until 13 May 2009. Please visit the On Exhibition page for more details and links to files.
