Business Outdoor Activation

Council received funding through the Victorian Government’s COVIDsafe Outdoor Activation Fund, aimed at helping businesses activate in outdoor spaces.  

The fund was allocated in two phases:

  • Part A - assistance to businesses to enable rapid implementation of temporary outdoor activations; and
  • Part B - permanent/semi-permanent capital works which will be delivered by Council in the new year.

The Part A fund was to support hospitality and non-hospitality businesses, including retail, hair and beauty and gyms to operate outdoors. It also aimed to provide support to people in the creative industries to get back to work. Financial support was available to assist those interested in activating outdoor spaces in which they can operate this summer.

Support wa available for the following eligible activities in the establishment of new, outdoor spaces:

  • Purchase or hire of parklet facilities, bollards, planter boxes, street furniture, landscaping, signage and lighting 
  • Purchase or hire of equipment to support outdoor economic activity in public areas including, marquees or other structures, tables and chairs, umbrellas, screens and blinds, cooling, shelving and display racks
  • Street entertainment, cultural displays and performances at venues to enhance the ambience of outdoor areas
  • Implementation of any required traffic management, including street closures
  • Additional waste management
  • Local marketing and communications to promote outdoor economic activity
