| Council supports helping hands | |
| MORE than 20 local volunteers signed up to help in times of natural disaster at a session hosted by Council this month.
The Victorian Council of Churches (VCC) held an accreditation day with 24 volunteers at council’s Bright offices on Wednesday, March 14 to become personal support workers for people in times of crisis.
VCC Emergencies Ministry Alpine Shire area coordinator Piers Hartley said more volunteers were always welcome.
“Anyone wishing to join the emergencies ministry is very welcome – it takes a day to become accredited and we’re always happy to have more members,” he said.
“Not everyone is always available when we call them to help, so the more people we have registered the better.”
Council’s Community Building and Engagement Officer Jan Mock said people who dedicated their time to help others were the lifeblood of small communities.
“We’re very lucky in the Alpine Shire to have a fantastic network of volunteers willing to help whenever they can,” she said.
“The VCC emergencies ministry is a wonderful example of what can be achieved by volunteers in difficult times – they provide support, compassion and help to people who are vulnerable.” | |
