The Alpine Shire is home to a broad range of producers of everything from chestnuts, olive oil and berries to apples, wine and lavender products.

Our Visitor Information Centres stock a great range of local produce, including wine, baked goods, jams and condiments to suit any taste.

The Alpine Shire's climate lends itself to the growing of grapes and winemaking, ensuring that there is always a cellar door open for tastings across the Ovens and Kiewa valleys.

The Myrtleford Visitor Information Centre is located in Myrtleford along the Great Alpine Road in the heart of North East Victoria between Wangaratta and Bright.

Myrtleford is 273 kilometres north-east of Melbourne via the Hume Highway and is the first accredited Visitor Information Centre encountered (unless you detour from the freeway). The centre is licenced to sell wines from the north east and has an extensive selection.

Beautiful scenery, tranquillity, rivers and mountain views will enchant visitors to Myrtleford. Mount Buffalo creates a dramatic background for the town and the Myrtleford Visitor Information Centre has several free handouts on this majestic national park.

The town is a flourishing commercial centre and the hub for the hops, timber and viticulture industries.

Myrtleford is a bike friendly town and centrally located on the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail - an old, disused railway line converted into a walking and cycling track.

Lake Buffalo is one of Myrtleford's greatest assets: the perfect spot for a day out amongst nature with the options of a lunchtime or evening barbecue, boating, skiing, fishing, swimming all at your fingertips.

Happy Valley is just one of Myrtleford's hidden secrets, hosting quality B&B's and cottage industries such as lavender and boutique wineries.
