Sustainable Communities Initiative  Printer Friendly

As part of the Moving Forward Update initiative, Regional Development Victoria has fully funded a project to assist five communities across the state to develop strategic planning for environmentally sustainable growth alongside jobs, investment and economic growth.

Alpine Shire’s Upper Ovens Valley submission was selected for the Hume Region to use CSIRO’s knowledge and experience as part of the national Sustainable Communities Initiative – a program that helps to find effective solutions to the challenges of sustainability. The model will be used to test local approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation and help to develop scenarios to favourably position the Upper Ovens Valley and its residents.

Partners in the Sustainable Communities Initiative - CSIRO and Regional Development Victoria
This is an exciting opportunity for the residents of Myrtleford, Bright and Harrietville. They will work in partnership with:
a. Alpine Shire Council;
b. Regional Development Victoria; and
c. scientists from CSIRO’s Sustainable Ecosystems, who have a broad range of expertise in social and economic research and natural resource management, to find effective solutions.

An overview of the project and Frequently Asked Questions are available for interested people. For more information, contact Council's Manager Strategic Services, John Carter on (03) 5755 0555.

For more information on the Sustainable Communities Initiative, go to the CSIRO website.
