| Positive Ageing Strategy | | The Positive Ageing Strategy 2013 – 2017 was jointly developed in partnership with Alpine Health.
Positive ageing refers to enhancing quality of life by providing opportunities for improving and preserving physical and mental health, independence, participation and security.
Alpine Health and Alpine Shire Council support the active, healthy, productive, positive or successful ageing approach that sees ageing in terms of opportunity and capacity rather than decline and degeneration.
The purpose of the Alpine Positive Ageing Strategy is to maximise the quality of life, participation and social recognition of older people living and visiting Alpine Shire.
The Alpine Positive Ageing Strategy (2013-2017) articulates a plan to optimise the quality of life of older people in the Alpine Shire which also has a positive impact on the community as a whole.
The Vision of the strategy is:
“Alpine Shire – a place where older people are fully embraced and celebrated, and where together solutions are created to enhance quality of life”
The aim of the strategy is to ensure that the needs of older adults are considered in the future provision of serviced and infrastructure in Alpine Shire. The Positive Ageing Strategy priorities are categories in the following areas:
1. Liveability; 2. Services and workforce; and 3. Planning and infrastructure.
The key principles in setting priorities for the development and implementation of the strategy are:
• Access for people of all ages and abilities • Equity • Enhanced community health, well-being, quality of life and social development • Balanced and flexible opportunities that respond to the changing needs and preference of the community • Sound economic, social and environmental decisions
| Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan | | Council is responsible for providing communities with opportunities to be healthy, secure and vibrant; and produces a Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan (according to the Health Act ), to guide this process.
The Plan focuses on the determinants of health (the things that have an affect on the health and wellbeing of individuals and the community), within the built, social, economic and natural environments.
Local Government has influence over determinants such as employment, social support, land-use, transport and access to cultural activities; so is ideally placed to guide improvements to the quality of life of its residents.
In this context, ’Health and Wellbeing’ describes a state of being well, contented and satisfied.
It’s not just about clinical health; it’s about all of the factors that lead people to feeling fulfilled as human beings with a sense of belonging and place.
The Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan has been developed and is currently being delivered.
